Google Business Profile Setup Guide for Palm Beach County Businesses
When someone in Palm Beach Gardens searches "coffee near me" or "pool service West Palm," the first thing they see usually isn't a website. It's the map and the business listings right under it. Those listings come from Google Business Profile, and the best part? It's free.
If yours is missing, half-finished or still showing your summer hours from two years ago, you're invisible right where customers are looking. Let's fix that, step by step.
Step 1: Find out if you already have one
Google sometimes creates a basic listing on its own, or a past employee set one up years ago. Sign in to the Google account you use for your business and search for your business name. If a profile shows up, claim it. If not, create a new one at google.com/business.
Tip: use a business Google account you'll always control, not a personal one that belongs to an employee or an old agency.
Step 2: Choose the right category
Your primary category tells Google what you are, and it's one of the biggest factors in which searches you show up for. Be specific: "Italian restaurant" beats "restaurant," and "Real estate agent" beats "Consultant." Then add a few secondary categories for the other things you do.
Step 3: Set your location or service area
Customers come to you? Add your street address.
You go to them (pool service, landscaping, mobile detailing)? Hide your address and list the towns you serve instead, like Jupiter, Palm Beach Gardens and West Palm Beach.
Make sure your business name, address and phone number match your website and social profiles exactly. Small mismatches like "Ste." vs. "Suite" are worth cleaning up.
Step 4: Verify your business
Google needs to confirm you're real before your profile goes fully live. Depending on your business, you may be offered a phone call or text, email, a video recording, a live video call or a postcard with a code. You'll see your options when you click Verify. Google says verification reviews can take up to 5 business days once you finish the steps. Their verification help page walks through each option.
If you're asked to record a video, plan it before you hit record: show your street sign or storefront, your signage, and something that proves you run the business, like unlocking the door, your tools or your register.
Step 5: Fill out everything
A complete profile looks more trustworthy. Add:
Hours, including holiday hours (and update them every season)
Your website, phone and booking link
A short description in plain language: who you serve, where, and what makes you different
Services or menu items, with prices if you can
Attributes like "women-owned," "wheelchair accessible" or "outdoor seating," if they apply
Step 6: Add real photos (and keep adding them)
Upload your logo, a cover photo, your storefront, your team and your work. Then add new photos every month. Fresh photos show customers you're open and active. If you already do a monthly content shoot for social media, save a few favorites for your profile too.
Step 7: Get reviews and answer every one
Reviews are the most visible part of your profile. Ask happy customers right after a great experience, with a direct link or QR code to make it easy. Reply to every review, good or bad, within a few days. Thank people by name, and keep negative replies calm and short.
One rule to know: don't buy reviews, write your own, or offer something in exchange for a five-star rating. Ask everyone, and let them say what they really think.
Step 8: Post updates
Google Business Profile has its own posts for offers, events and updates. They're quick to make, and you can reuse what you're already posting on Instagram.
